This past December, K.C. Ling Elementary secretary Mrs. Jacqui Cone received a heartfelt call from Donna, a Hemlock alum, asking if our students could spread a little holiday cheer to her mom, Kathy, a Hemlock resident. Donna requested Christmas cards, and Mrs. Cone got right to work. After sharing the request with our teachers, Mrs. Cone, along with Principal Gensch and Music Teacher Ms. Hawkins, turned this into something extra special. Not only did students create beautiful Christmas cards, but Ms. Hawkins gathered back-to-back 2nd-grade classes to walk to Ms. Kathy’s home and surprise her with Christmas carols. The result was pure holiday magic. Ms. Kathy was overwhelmed with joy, moved to tears by the thoughtful gesture, and couldn’t believe our students came to sing just for her. Donna later shared how much this moment meant to her family. This beautiful act of kindness shows just how amazing our Huskies are. 💌🎶 Have a feel-good story to share? Attention Huskie Pack, We understand the importance of timely communication and, while we typically make such announcements in the morning, we want to give our students and families ample time to plan. Due to the less-than-tropical weather conditions, there will be no school on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. However, our childcare center will remain open for those with scheduled care. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding as we prioritize the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Stay safe and stay warm. #HuskiePack #SledDogsRest

Attention Huskie Families: With extremely cold temperatures expected this week, Hemlock Public School District is monitoring weather conditions to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff. In lower peninsula Michigan, schools typically consider closing when the wind chill temperatures reach -20 degrees Fahrenheit or lower for a sustained two-hour period of time around bus pick-up time. If it becomes necessary to cancel school, we will promptly communicate any closures through our usual channels, including email, text, and phone calls, as well as updates on our social media platforms, district website, and local TV stations. In the meantime, we encourage families to ensure their children are dressed appropriately for the frigid temperatures that will continue throughout the week. Warm coats, hats, gloves, and layers are essential to staying safe and comfortable during this cold snap. #MiddleSchoolersWeMeanYou #BundleUp #DontBeTooCoolForAWarmCoat Thank you for your attention and cooperation as we navigate the winter weather together. Stay warm, Huskies. Note: We utilize weather.gov (National Weather Service) and not dramatize local weather provided on radio/TV.

Mrs. Whitford attended the Americans and the Holocaust workshop in Lansing last week, exploring key topics like the genocide pyramid model, American antisemitism, and hearing a powerful story from a Holocaust survivor’s family. She also toured the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s traveling exhibit, sharing, "I truly value days like this, where I can step outside the classroom and expand my knowledge of the subjects I teach. I’m also grateful for an administration that actively supports the lifelong learning of our teaching staff." #HemlockHuskies #LifeReadyHPSD #Huskietastic
