From Hemlock High School to the national stage. Many in the Huskie Pack may remember Jacob Kelley, a former member of Hemlock’s Gray Matter Robotics Team, Drama Club, and a proud member of the Class of 2020. Tomorrow evening, Jacob will appear on the television show MasterChef. At Hemlock Public School District, we love seeing our graduates chase big dreams, take risks, and step onto new stages. Whether it is robotics, the arts, athletics, skilled trades, entrepreneurship, or culinary competition, our students continue to show that small towns can produce world class talent. We are proud of Jacob and excited to cheer him on as he represents himself, his family, and a little piece of the Huskie Pack on a national platform. Good luck, Jacob. We will be watching. #HemlockHuskies #GrayMatter5712 #PullTheSled #SmallTownBigOpportunities

Alumni Spotlight 🎓 Kennedy Kazmierski, a 2021 Hemlock graduate, was involved in Book Club, Art Club, Theatre, National Honor Society, Early Middle College, and served as Class Secretary her senior year. She credits Hemlock’s staff as the most impactful part of her experience, sharing gratitude for the many educators and support staff who helped shape her path.

After graduation, Kennedy earned her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with a minor in Political Science from Saginaw Valley State University, along with a Global Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish. She says Hemlock’s wide range of courses and strong support system helped prepare her well for college and beyond.

From Spanish class fiestas to performances and school events, Kennedy made the most of her time as a Huskie—creating memories that still stand out today.

Now serving as a Staff Assistant in Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet’s Saginaw District Office, Kennedy works directly with constituents to help navigate issues with government agencies, attend community events, and support meaningful connections between people and public service.

Her advice for current Huskies: “Be scared and do it anyway!”

A tiny moment of wonder can spark big learning. This is stewardship too: nurturing a love of learning that starts with curiosity and grows into discovery.

Small town, big opportunities—right here on our campus.

Monday Memory Fall of 2022 feels like yesterday. Under the Friday night lights, in front of a proud Huskie crowd, Hemlock Public School District launched something that had been a long time coming, our very first Hall of Fame induction. And for our inaugural honoree, it just felt right to start with a legend. Carl Gippert For more than 16 years, Mr. Gippert poured his heart, talent, and high expectations into the students of Hemlock, helping shape not only musicians, but young men and women who understood discipline, excellence, and pride in representing something bigger than themselves. His impact stretched far beyond the band room, leaving fingerprints on generations of Huskies. In September of 2022, Hemlock proudly named Carl Gippert as the inaugural member of our Hall of Fame in the Significant Contributors category, honoring him during halftime of a varsity football game surrounded by former students, family, friends, and a grateful community. Some people teach notes. Legends teach standards. #MondayMemory #HonorWhereHonorIsDue #HemlockHuskies #PullTheSled

When the lights got brighter… so did Hemlock’s Gray Matter. Team FIRST Robotics Competition #5712 came to Worlds. We saw it. We battled it. We stood toe-to-toe with some of the best robotics teams on the planet. Did we get knocked out before the finals? Yes. Did we leave empty handed? Not even close. We are headed back to Hemlock with one of the most respected honors in all of FIRST… The Gracious Professionalism Award. That award is not about gears. It is not about code. It is not about horsepower. It is about character. It is about competing like warriors… while treating others with respect. It is about helping opponents. It is about lifting others. It is about class under pressure. FIRST describes Gracious Professionalism as high-quality work, emphasizing the value of others, and respecting individuals and the community. This year, on the biggest stage in the world, Team 5712 was recognized not just for what they built… but for who they are. Veni. Vidi. Vicimus. We came. We saw. We conquered. Not because we won it all… But because the world saw what the Huskie Pack is made of. Welcome home, Gray Matter. You made Hemlock Public School District proud. #PullTheSled #HemlockHuskies #GrayMatter #5712 #FIRSTRobotics #GraciousProfessionalism

Big stage. Bright lights. Zero fear. FIRST Championship just got a little more interesting. Hemlock Gray Matter #5712 walked into Worlds, battled on legendary Curie Field for the past couple of days, and now the story gets even better. Out of teams from across the planet… Gray Matter has officially been selected to compete as part of Alliance 4. And standing shoulder to shoulder with us: • Broncobots #1987 • TEAM R.I.C.E. #870 • High Rollers #987 Missouri. New York. Las Vegas. And right there in the middle of it… small-town Hemlock, Michigan. Engineering. Grit. Strategy. Pressure. Heart. This is what happens when students dare to build big, think bigger, and refuse to back down. Alliance 4 is locked in. Let’s make some noise, Huskie Pack. #PullTheSled #HemlockHuskies #GrayMatter5712 #FIRSTChampionship #CurieField #SmallTownBigOpportunities

Ms. Hawkins is bringing the energy with Music Chairs.
Mrs. Bouchard is getting students moving with Stand Tall, Sit Small and a custom whiteboard bench built for focus and flexibility.

Superintendent Killingbeck recently stopped in to deliver classroom upgrades designed around what our teachers actually need to do their best work. Not random. Not one size fits all. Built with purpose.

That is the Hemlock difference.
We listen. We support. We deliver.

When teachers have the right tools, students do more than learn.
They engage. They move. They grow.

And that is the Huskie standard. Every single day.

Match 1. World stage. No warm-up.

Hemlock’s Gray Matter #5712 stepped onto the field and got right to work.

Blue Alliance takes it 534 to 439.

That scoreboard tells part of the story. The rest is grit, preparation, and a team that belongs in the arena with the best on the planet.

This is what it looks like when small town meets big stage.

No flinch. No excuses. Just compete.

We are just getting started.

Our LEGO League teams had a great time at the RoboKings Expo 🤖 The Bone Diggies brought home the Team Model Award, Team Rock earned the Coding Award, and The Digletts won the Poster Award. We’re so proud of how all of our teams presented their builds and confidently explained their coding to the judges.

After judging, the fun continued with a chance to drive the “big kids” robots, create ScribbleBots, and take part in an epic high-five line (the smiles say it all).

Way to go, Huskies!

Every six weeks or so, something pretty special happens in our district.

Our elementary students don’t just sit and learn about the future. They step into it.

They walk into the Lockwood STEM Center.
They visit.
They explore.
They build.
They ask questions that don’t always have easy answers.

And in that space, you can see it happening in real time. Curiosity turns into confidence. Ideas turn into action. Kids start to believe they can do more than they thought.

That’s what happens when human capital is fertilized the right way. It grows.

This isn’t a one-time field trip. It’s a system. Every six weeks or so. Consistent exposure. Intentional design. Real opportunity.

And it matters.

A lot of credit goes to Director of the Lockwood STEM Center, Laura Trombley and the team for creating an environment where students don’t just learn about STEM, they experience it.

This is how you build a pipeline.
This is how you build belief.
This is how you #PullTheSled.
