We’ve been loving the holiday cheer around HMS! Yesterday, our halls were full of festive fun with Ugly Christmas Sweater Day—the brighter, bolder, and sillier, the better! 🎅🧶
Today we wrapped up the week with Blue Christmas Friday, as students and staff proudly Christmas-ized their Hemlock gear and showed off their Husky pride in true holiday style 💙🎄

🦑🔬 Science in Action at the Middle School! 🔬🦑
Our 8th-grade students dove into hands-on learning during a squid dissection lab in Mrs. Slominski's class! Students practiced basic dissection skills while exploring squid anatomy and making real-world connections to our Salmon in the Classroom (SIC) program.
Squid are an important food source for Chinook salmon, which our students are raising from eggs to fry stage right here at school. Through SIC, students learn about life cycles, ecosystems, conservation, and stewardship—all while connecting science and math to an authentic environmental project.
Experiences like this bring learning to life and help students understand how interconnected our aquatic ecosystems truly are. Great work, 8th graders! 👏🌊🐟

Our halls were filled with island vibes today as students celebrated Hawaiian Christmas Spirit Day! Despite the winter weather outside, the warmth of school spirit was on full display with leis, Hawaiian shirts, and lots of festive smiles. 🌴☀️

We’re excited to share that the indoor mini Kona Ice station will be visiting Hemlock Middle School on Monday, December 15th, as part of our Mele Kalikimaka Hawaiian Christmas! 🍧🌴
Students will have the opportunity to purchase a Kona Ice for $5. We hope to make sure any student who would like a Kona Ice can enjoy one.
