It's #TeacherFeature Tuesday, and today we're featuring our splendiferous science guy, Jamie Slate. While he has taught at Hemlock High School for two and a half years, he has over a decade of teaching experience. Aside from educating our high schoolers in all things Physics, Computer Science + Astronomy, here are some things you may not know about Mr. Slate... • He could listen to "You Dropped a Bomb on Me" by The Gap Band on repeat. • He loves trivia, and is pretty sure most of his students would confess that he knows a lot of useless information (there may have also been a humble brag included in this answer regarding the fact that his team won the Hemlock Sports Boosters Trivia Night this year). • As a child he always wanted to do something in the medical field. • If he won the lottery and decided to give up teaching, he would continue coaching football (and his off-seasons would consist of a lot of golf). • His favorite subject in school was..."ALL OF IT. Sure, he teaches Science now, but in high school, he loved History, English, Spanish, and Math with just as much passion. He loves learning and competing, so High school was the perfect setting for him because he learned a lot, and he and his friends competed fiercely inside and outside of the classroom. Lastly, we asked him what his students might be surprised to learn about him, and he said, "Initially, I think my students are surprised to find out how much of a nerd I am. That shock wears off pretty quickly though". We're grateful to have you in our Huskie Pack, Mr. Slate! #Huskietastic #Since1863 #HPSDPackLeader

🐟 There's something a little fishy going on in 7th Grade! This is Mr. Wilkowski's seventh year raising and releasing salmon with his students. He uses the experience to discuss Michigan's natural resources and ecosystems. Mr. Wilkowski's 'Salmon in the Classroom' program is sponsored by the Michigan DNR and the Leon P. Martuch Chapter of Trout Unlimited. Trout Unlimited purchased the tank, chiller, and other necessary materials to raise the salmon, and then we get the eggs from the DNR each October/November and the fish are released in late April or early May. #Huskietastic #HandsOnEducation #Since1863

Today's #StaffSpotlight is on Nancy Clare, who has worked here at Hemlock Public School District in the Food Service department for 13 years. She's a proud Hemlock graduate herself, and we'd love you to get to know her a little better... • As a child, she wanted to be a baker when she grew up. • She loves being a lunch lady and an accomplishment she's proud of this year is that she hasn't missed a single breakfast shift! • If she won the lottery and didn't have to work, she'd explore the medical field as she finds it super interesting. • Her favorite part of her job is giving kids their favorite foods. • Her least favorite part of her job is how sweaty she gets (kitchens get toasty!) • The quote she lives her life by is: "Even if no one is watching, do the right thing". Hemlock Public School District is grateful to have you in our pack, Nancy! #PackLeaders #Huskietastic #BetterTogether #Since1863

We wanted to take a moment to give a big shoutout to the Hemlock Community Pep Club for all the amazing work they do to create a sense of community spirit, pride, and engagement! From putting on the Paw Ball to sponsoring community events, the Hemlock Community Pep Club truly has the heartbeat of our community. And speaking of community events, we want to personally thank them for sponsoring the 2nd annual Senior Spring Brunch. It was a beautiful time filled with delicious food, great company, and lots of laughter. It was wonderful to see so many people come together to celebrate the arrival of spring and the sense of community that the Hemlock Community Pep Club helps to foster. The Hemlock Community Pep Club board is comprised of Leon Zastrow, Angie Trinklein, Cheryl Hagerty, and Dawn Earnestly. Once again, thank you to the Hemlock Community Pep Club for everything you do. It's #TeacherFeature Tuesday, and today we're featuring our marvelous MTSS teacher, Aimee Fromholz. While she's currently teaching MTSS at Hemlock Elementary and K.C. Ling, she has spent many years with us as a 1st and 2nd grade teacher. Aside from having a whopping 23 years invested in our little huskies, here are a few other things you may not know about Mrs. Fromholz... • If she could be any Disney character, she'd be Belle from Beauty and the Beast (because she loves to read, and always tries to see the best in everyone). • As a child she always wanted to be a teacher, in fact, she played "school" with her two younger brothers and her dolls. • If she won the lottery and decided to give up teaching, she would move somewhere warm and become a yoga instructor on a beach. But, as she noted, that's still teaching! • The quote she lives her life by is: "Everything happens for a Reason". Lastly, we asked her how she hoped kids would remember her and her classroom, and she said, "I hope my students remember me as being kind, caring, supportive and encouraging. I hope they remember our class as being a safe, learning environment with a sense of belonging". And we are positive they will! We're lucky to have you, Mrs. Fromholz! #Huskietastic #Since1863 #HPSDPackLeader
