As the Class of 2026 continues their senior year, Hemlock High School encourages students and families to stay proactive and informed when planning for life after graduation. The next few months are an important time for seniors to take meaningful steps toward their future, whether that includes college, trade school, the military, or entering the workforce.
To help students explore their options, representatives from a variety of colleges and universities have been visiting Hemlock High School to share information about their campuses, programs, admissions, and scholarships. These visits give students the chance to learn more about different schools and find the best fit for their goals.
Hemlock High School also recently welcomed a representative from MiLEAP, who met with seniors to discuss the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and the benefits of completing it. FAFSA is now open, and beginning this year, all seniors are required to complete and submit the FAFSA as part of their graduation requirements. Students who choose not to submit the FAFSA must turn in a signed universal waiver form to the high school office. Completing the FAFSA can open doors to valuable financial support opportunities, including grants, scholarships, and other aid that make college or career training more affordable.
Seniors also have the opportunity to attend the College and Career Fair hosted at St. Charles High School on October 24 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Students must submit a signed permission slip to attend. This event allows seniors to connect directly with colleges and employers to explore their future options.
October marks College Application Month, a statewide initiative encouraging seniors to apply to colleges and universities. Many institutions that typically charge an application fee waive it during October. Students are encouraged to begin submitting applications, exploring programs, and asking questions about admission requirements and campus life.
In November, the Saginaw Community Foundation Scholarship applications will open. This local partnership provides financial support to many area students each year and offers a wide range of scholarship opportunities. During English 12 classes, staff will introduce these scholarships and assist students with setting up their accounts and applications through SCF’s online platform.
Seniors and families are reminded to stay connected through the Hemlock High School Class of 2026 Google Classroom, where information about college, scholarships, and career planning is regularly shared. This is a valuable resource for staying up to date on upcoming events, opportunities, and deadlines.
The Hemlock High School staff is here to help every step of the way. Seniors are encouraged to reach out with any questions or for assistance as they prepare for the next chapter of their journey.
