10 Tips & Tricks for Success

Being part of athletics provides students with more than just the opportunity to compete. It builds teamwork, discipline, leadership, and resilience that carry far beyond the playing field.

Student-athletes often balance busy schedules, making it important to develop healthy habits that support both academic and athletic success. To help our Huskies perform their best, Hemlock Athletics has put together 10 tips and tricks for success:

  1. Prioritize Attendance- Show up every day ready to learn in the classroom and compete at practice. Consistency matters.

  2. Communicate Effectively- Stay in touch with coaches, teachers, and parents. Be proactive about conflicts, absences, or questions.

  3. Stay Organized- Use a planner or digital calendar to track assignments, practices, and games. Planning ahead reduces stress.

  4. Fuel Your Body- Eat balanced meals with protein, fruits, and vegetables. Avoid skipping meals, especially before games.

  5. Hydrate Daily- Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay energized and focused.

  6. Get Quality Sleep- Aim for 8-10 hours each night to allow your body and mind to recover.

  7. Use Your Time Wisely- Take advantage of study hall, bus rides, or downtime to complete schoolwork.

  8. Maintain a Positive Attitude- Approach challenges with effort and resilience. Your mindset affects your performance and your team.

  9. Be a Team Player- Support your teammates, celebrate their success, and encourage one another through setbacks.

  10. Take Care of Yourself- Balance is important. If you feel overwhelmed, reach out to a coach, teacher, or counselor for support.
