Irons in the Fire

Hemlock Public School District is fortunate to have great families and wonderful community support.  The district is continually focused on student safety, achievement, and overall positive school experience.

Currently, the district has several initiatives that will make improvements to the facilities and enhance our overall student experience. These initiatives range from simple maintenance like roof work and HVAC to major projects like the K.C. Ling gymnasium, reworking traffic flow and parking at Hemlock Elementary, and reimaging Wallace Field.

In addition, to growing services and major projects through our 2022 Bond and continued maintenance with our 2020 Sinking Fund, we have two other privately funded opportunities. First, the expansion of the STEM Center; this facility was erected in May of 2020 and opened to students later that fall. The STEM Center has become a dynamic space filled with students and energy, but more space is needed to continue to our vision of hands-on, real-world STEM education. We currently have raised approximately $80k of the approximately $400k plus needed to break ground on this endeavor.

The second is a new development project focused on getting school-aged children more active and more engaged year-round. Did you know that our region and area are amongst the highest for childhood obesity? A field house would provide an indoor space for students to participate in activities year-round and strive to keep students healthy, engaged in the community, and safe. We are fortunate to have a large donation of over $400k by a generous family as matching funds, but we need to raise more dollars and in-kind work to make this vision a reality. If you or someone you know might be interested in making a tax-deductible donation to either or both of these projects, please contact central office at (989)642-5282/email wamack@hemlockps.com today.

Board of Education President Matt Wesener, “No stone left unturned comes to mind as we continue to focus on serving our students and community. It is so exciting to see the years of hard work and planning in creating a vision and plan start to come to fruition.”

We are always looking to add partners to our improvement efforts, if you have ideas, a donation, in-kind materials/labor, or just want to talk please let us know.
