Dear Huskie Pack:

This time of year is always a time of reflection, and in a year like 2021, we have many wonderful things to consider and celebrate. Although we all hoped to see an end to the pandemic this year, we find that COVID-19 remains a challenge.

Thanks to the outstanding efforts of our students, faculty, and staff, we have continued to set the standard for health and safety as we have managed to keep operational throughout this school year so far. This has led to what I consider to be one of the greatest triumphs of 2021, the return to school with a full calendar of activities and learning opportunities for students across our district.

Our students have been engaged in hands-on learning experiences in classrooms, labs, on the competition field, and all over our campus. The faculty continue to improve the lives and knowledge base of our students as we explore ways to enhance the student experience. We continue to build incredible support for our students as learners with after-school tutoring and our new online 24/7/365 tutoring program that we are piloting for students in grades 7-11.

This holiday season, we saw a return to the "stage," or more accurately, the gym floor of our middle and high school band students and our Kindergarten concert. These were a delight to be a part of and leave lasting memories for all that were in attendance.

As a school district, we are positioned to best serve students and families and strive to fulfill our mission and vision. We will be turning the page in 2021, and the horizon ahead is filled with great opportunities for our Huskie Pack. Our Strategic and Master Planning efforts this Fall have cast a vision for the future. Our Board of Education has taken action to unanimously support a Zero Tax Increase initiative that would transform our campus and the work we do with students and families.

Again, thank you. Please accept my best wishes for a safe, healthy, and very happy holiday season.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays,

Don Killingbeck, Ed.D. Superintendent Hemlock Public School District

P.S. - We are starting to plan for the expansion of the Lockwood STEM Center with the addition of classrooms. Our team (Tom) is working on grants, but if you or someone you know would like to make a year-end donation, please do not hesitate to let us know.
