As Hemlock Public School District concludes its community information series ahead of the November election, district leaders are expressing appreciation for the community's engagement and continued interest in local public education.

Over the past several weeks, the district has shared factual information about the two renewal proposals appearing on the November ballot, including how Michigan's school funding system works, the purpose of the non-homestead operating millage renewal, the proposed tax-neutral bond renewal, and answers to frequently asked questions from residents.

District officials say the goal throughout the series has been to provide clear, accurate information that helps voters understand each proposal and how the district's funding structure supports both daily operations and long-term facility planning.

"Our community has demonstrated a genuine commitment to learning more about these proposals," Superintendent Don Killingbeck said. "We appreciate everyone who has taken the time to ask questions, attend informational meetings, review the available materials, or simply stay informed throughout this process."

The two renewal proposals serve different purposes within the district's overall funding structure. The non-homestead operating millage renewal supports the district's annual operating budget, while the tax-neutral bond renewal would support facility and site improvements, including projects related to school safety and security, additional classroom space, and campus connectivity. By law, bond funds cannot be used for salaries, instructional programs, or general operating expenses.

District leaders note that strong public schools are supported through the collective efforts of students, educators, families, volunteers, local businesses, community partners, and engaged residents. Throughout the informational campaign, community members have participated by asking thoughtful questions, reviewing materials, and seeking a better understanding of the issues before them.

As Election Day arrives tomorrow, Hemlock Public School District encourages residents to continue reviewing the available information and participate in the election process.

Additional information about the November ballot proposals, including frequently asked questions and supporting materials, remains available on the district's election webpage.
