Cardiac

On Wednesday, April 8, Hemlock Middle School partnered with CMU Health to conduct a comprehensive cardiac emergency drill alongside the school’s Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT). This important training is a key step toward becoming a MI HEARTSafe Certified School, now that all middle school staff are CPR certified.

The drill simulated a real-life cardiac emergency, allowing staff to practice response protocols, communication, and coordination in a time-sensitive situation. The middle school team demonstrated professionalism, preparedness, and strong collaboration throughout the exercise.

“Our staff took this drill very seriously and approached it with a high level of professionalism,” said school nurse Becky Killingbeck. “It’s reassuring to know we are continuing to strengthen our ability to respond quickly and effectively in the event of a cardiac emergency.”

Principal Lori Gensch added, “I am incredibly proud of our team. Their commitment to student safety and willingness to work collaboratively have brought us one step closer to MI HEARTSafe certification. This work reflects the care and dedication our staff shows every day.”

Hemlock Middle School looks forward to completing the remaining steps in the certification process, joining Hemlock High School in meeting the MI HEARTSafe standard and continuing to prioritize the safety of all students and staff.
