Hemlock High School, part of the Hemlock Public School District, has been awarded the 2026 Future Proud Michigan Educator EXPLORE grant from the Michigan Department of Education (MDE). Hemlock is one of 23 districts across the state selected to receive funding as part of a nearly $1 million statewide investment aimed at helping students explore careers in education and addressing Michigan’s ongoing teacher shortage. The EXPLORE program provides $10,000 per school building to develop and sustain programming for students in grades 6–12 who are interested in pursuing teaching as a profession.
Through the grant, Hemlock High School will expand opportunities for students to engage in hands-on experiences that introduce them to the field of education. Programming may include visits to Michigan educator preparation programs, mentorships with current teachers, tutoring opportunities, and participation in Future Educator Signing Day celebrations. In addition, EXPLORE staff grants provide tuition reimbursement support for graduates who pursue teacher preparation programs and commit to returning to their home district to teach. This investment reflects Hemlock’s commitment to growing its own future educators and strengthening the long-term success of students and schools within the community.
