A few years ago, when enrollment was at a level after a 40-year decline, we launched a vision to modernize our campus. We renovated nearly every space, added a gym at K.C. Ling, added a new high school gym, and put the Performing Arts Center on track for 2026. Those upgrades were needed—and they’re paying off.
Fast-forward to today: our programs are stronger, our curriculum is deeper, our local economy is growing, and the families are coming. Buildings that once had plenty of room are now…full. How is that possible?
Two big reasons, in addition to our growth:
Ling’s “open school” past. K.C. Ling was originally built with an open-concept layout—spaces could expand or contract by literally moving bookshelves. In 2002, we (wisely) built walls for sound, safety, and instructional quality. That improvement also created fixed, defined classrooms, which reduces flexibility when enrollment rises.
Early Childhood Center's success. In 2014, when Hemlock Elementary had open space, we launched the Early Childhood Center. Today, it serves roughly 200 children and their families—an incredible community asset that also uses the square footage that used to sit empty.
This is a good challenge to have—and we’re on it. In 2023, our administration office moved out of Hemlock Elementary, freeing up valuable space. They landed at the Southwest corner of the high school to give time for much-needed renovations at the North Office, where they moved in 2025. This transition added multiple classrooms back and saved over $2M.
We’re refining schedules, using spaces creatively, and folding these realities into our long-range facilities planning. More updates soon as we continue to innovate, collaborate, and educate for a growing Huskie Pack.
