Hemlock Public School District today announced that Trustee Bryan Conger will step away from his seat on the Board of Education. A proud Hemlock alumnus and committed community leader, Bryan has served with a steady, student-first focus—helping the district navigate growth, maintain strong fiscal stewardship, and keep teaching and learning at the center.
A Hemlock High School graduate from the Class of 1997, Bryan is married to Kelly (also HHS ’97). Their children, Kinsley and Brylee, both attend Hemlock Public Schools. After earning a business degree from Northwood University, Bryan built a successful career and currently manages the Grand Banquet Center in Bay City. His business background and shared passion for the school and community led him to board service, where he consistently emphasized balancing growth with class sizes and ensuring an engaging, robust, and appropriate curriculum for every student.
As the Board recently interviewed candidates to fill the vacancy created by Trustee Hilary House’s move out of the district, Bryan shared that watching strong, qualified community members step forward affirmed that this is the right moment for a transition. He intends to invest more time in high school athletics, including serving as an assistant coach with the softball team—another way to support Hemlock’s students and culture of teamwork.
“Serving on the school board has been a privilege and a responsibility I’ve taken to heart,” Bryan Congersaid. “Seeing the caliber of community members eager to step up convinced me this is a good time to make space for new voices. I’m excited to keep supporting our students a little closer to the field—as an assistant softball coach—and continue cheering on the Huskie Pack.”
“Bryan is the kind of teammate who quietly gets big things done,” said Board President Matt Wesener. “He brought a business owner’s discipline, a parent’s perspective, and a Huskie’s heart to every decision. From thoughtful discussion on class sizes to a constant push for strong, engaging instruction, Bryan always centered students. On behalf of the Board and our community—thank you, Bryan, for helping us Pull the Sled.”
Board appointments
At the same time the Board addressed Trustee House’s vacancy, the Board also filled Bryan Conger’s seat. Following interviews with interested community members, the remaining five Board members appointed Lindsay Kerry and Kaleigh Berent to serve. In accordance with election requirements, both appointees will need to run in the next open election should they choose to continue their board service.
