Hemlock Public School District has been recognized on the national stage for excellence in school communication by the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA). The district earned four prestigious awards, including the coveted Golden Achievement Award for its work in advancing strategic, mission-driven communication.
In addition to the Golden Achievement Award, the district was honored with:
Award of Merit for the video Hemlock Elementary | Bring the Magic
Award of Merit for the video A Commencement to Remember
Honorable Mention
for the video Hemlock Takes Frankenmuth Snowfest by Storm
These honors highlight the district’s commitment to telling its story with creativity, clarity, and heart—amplifying student voice, celebrating staff, and engaging the greater community in meaningful ways.
“Communication is not just about sharing information—it’s about building connection, trust, and a shared vision for the future,” said Superintendent Don Killingbeck. “This recognition affirms the intentional work our district is doing to keep our community informed, involved, and inspired.”
Board President Matt Wesener echoed that sentiment, stating, “We’re proud of the way our communication reflects who we are: innovative, transparent, and rooted in community. These national honors speak to the talent and dedication behind the scenes, ensuring our story is told with excellence.”
The district’s communication efforts are led by Joy McMillan, who expressed gratitude for the recognition: “These awards are not just about videos or visuals—they’re about people. Every student featured, every story shared, every image captured is a reflection of the incredible things happening here in Hemlock. I’m proud to serve a district that values communication as a key component of educational excellence.”
As the district continues to grow and innovate, this national recognition affirms that its communication strategy is not only effective—but award-winning.
