As we continue in our legacy series, we pause to pay tribute to an extraordinary individual who has left an indelible mark on our school community - Bob Wallace.
As the head football coach at Hemlock from 1964 through 1984, Bob Wallace's impact on the gridiron was nothing short of legendary. His coaching record, boasting an impressive 134-47-2, stands as a testament to his commitment, dedication, and indomitable spirit. During his tenure, the Huskies achieved remarkable milestones, including an astonishing 40-1-1 record in the Central Michigan League from 1968 to 1974, nine league titles, 18 winning seasons, and five undefeated seasons, punctuated by two separate 20-game winning streaks.
But to the athletes and students of Hemlock High School, Bob Wallace was more than a coach; he was a mentor, teacher, inspiration, and friend. His presence in the school hallways was a source of motivation and guidance, leaving an enduring impact on the lives he touched. Among the faculty, he will forever be remembered for his dedication to teaching, loyalty to his students, detail-oriented athletic mind, and his ever-present sense of humor.
After a dedicated 36-year career in teaching and coaching, Bob Wallace retired from Hemlock Public Schools in 1996, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire. His accolades as a coach are numerous, but perhaps the most cherished include having the Hemlock High School football field named Wallace Field in his honor in 2007, induction into the Michigan High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame, and induction into the Saginaw County Sports Hall of Fame in 2013.
While Bob Wallace may have left us on May 25, 2014, at the age of 79, his influence endures. It lives on in the cheers of fans at Wallace Field, in the hearts of students and fellow faculty he mentored, and in the enduring spirit of the Hemlock community. Today, we express our deepest gratitude for the mark he has left on our school and in our hearts. Coach Wallace, your legacy lives on.
