As we continue in our journey of the giants, we pause to celebrate a remarkable individual who has woven herself into the very tapestry of our school community - Mary Ann Ling.

Mary Ann Ling's legacy is one of deep-rooted commitment and tireless service. Following in the footsteps of her father, Dr. Alex Manzoni, and father-in-law, Dr. Kenneth C. Ling, she dedicated herself to the Hemlock Public School District, echoing her family's enduring connection to our community that spans generations.

For 37 years, Mary Ann graced the classroom as a teacher, nurturing young minds and shaping futures. Even after retiring from teaching, her passion for education remained steadfast, leading her to serve as a substitute teacher for an additional two years. In 2012, she transitioned to the Board of Education, where her commitment to our community, school, and children continued to shine.

With a remarkable 8-year tenure on the Board and a cumulative service record of an astounding 45 years, Mary Ann Ling's dedication to the children and families of our community is unparalleled. Her "Hemlockian" spirit, deeply ingrained in the fabric of our town, has left an enduring mark.
Superintendent Don Killingbeck aptly describes her as someone who always focused on what was best for children, the school district, and the community, explaining that “Her legacy is not only one of service but of leadership that inspires others to do better and be better. I am a better person and leader because of the opportunity I had to work with her over the 8 years that she served on the board”.

In 2021, the Hemlock Board of Education unanimously recognized her extraordinary contributions by naming the space that serves as the district board room and professional development area as the "Mary Ann Ling Governance and Professional Learning Center." A fitting tribute to a remarkable person. Board President Matt Wesener said, "She has given so much to Hemlock Schools over the years. She is truly a wonderful person, and naming this space in her honor recognizes her dedication and efforts to Hemlock, an honor well deserved."

Thank you, Mary Ann Ling, for your lasting impact on our school and community. Your legacy will forever be cherished.
