Judy Giant

In the mosaic of our school's history, some figures leave an enduring imprint that shapes our community's very soul. Today, as we continue our Standing on the Shoulders of Giants series, we honor the remarkable Judy Turner, a beacon of dedication and education whose influence will illuminate the path for generations to come.

Judy Turner's journey with Hemlock Public School District began in 1960, as a young and passionate teacher fresh out of college. Little did anyone know that this modest beginning would pave the way for an exceptional educator's legacy that would span decades. With incredible determination, Judy embraced every opportunity that came her way until her retirement in 2004.

Judy was not just an educator; she was a team player who selflessly served wherever she was needed. Her impact radiated beyond classroom walls, touching the lives of students, staff, and families alike. A fervent believer in every student's potential, she labored tirelessly to create a positive learning environment where success stories could flourish.

Superintendent Dr. Don Killingbeck beautifully captured Judy's heart saying, "Imagine what the world would be like if we all took our cues from her example. The world today would be more kind, more selfless, and have a whole lot more common sense." The Hemlock Board of Education's unanimous decision in September of 2021 to name the district's multifunctional theatre at Hemlock Middle School the 'Judy Turner Black Box Theatre' is a tribute that reflects her warmth, leadership, and impact.

This state-of-the-art space mirrors Judy's legacy by welcoming students, teachers, and guests alike, fostering creativity, collaboration, and learning. “For all the great things Hemlock is and represents today, it is because of people like Judy”, Board President Matt Wesener said, adding that, "The Judy Turner Black Box Theatre will be a continuation of her support, care, and leadership for students".

Today, we issue a heartfelt thank you to Judy Turner for her monumental contributions to our district. Her legacy is a testament to the power of education, compassion, and leadership. As we celebrate her enduring impact on our school and community, we are reminded that by standing on her shoulders, we elevate ourselves to greater heights.
