We are thrilled to announce that Hemlock Public School District has achieved a remarkable turnaround over the last ten years, and we are proud to reveal the secret behind our success - the hidden power of smiling.
Ten years ago, our district was facing a multitude of challenges, including a lack of funds, an unaligned curriculum, and declining enrollment that had persisted for 40 years. In the face of such difficulties, we turned to a TED Talk on the power of smiling as a source of inspiration.
The fruits of those smiles can be seen with a K-12-aligned curriculum and instruction, the most stable enrollment, a better fiscal outlook, and programming focused on the whole child and preparing students for their future. Hemlock Public School District is a destination school of choice, a school system for families all over the region.
At our opening professional development day in 2013, we asked everyone present to smile, and we smiled together through those challenging times. Since then, we have continued to smile, work hard, and achieve our shared goals, all while maintaining a positive outlook - which we now refer to as "huskietastic".
We believe that the power of smiling has been instrumental in our success. It has helped us remain resilient and committed to our goals despite the obstacles we have faced. Our achievements over the past decade have shown that nothing is impossible when we work together and stay positive.
We are incredibly proud of our Huskie Pack and community for their progress toward our vision and mission of innovating, collaborating, and educating a community of learners. We couldn't have achieved what we have without their hard work, dedication, and positive attitude.
As we move towards a brighter future for our students, families, school, and community, we urge everyone to continue supporting each other and practicing the life-changing art of smiling. By tapping into the surprising power of smiling, we can achieve what some deem impossible.
