Hemlock Public School District has been shortlisted for federal funding as part of Congressman Dan Kildee's Community Project Funding initiative. The initiative aims to invest in communities throughout mid-Michigan. The Hemlock Public School District's proposed project is the construction of a field house to keep youth active year-round, which has been allocated $1,800,000 for consideration in the FY 2024 appropriations bills.

Congressman Kildee's initiative has requested federal funding for 15 community projects that would benefit Genesee, Saginaw, Bay, Tuscola, and Midland County residents. The federal funding will support various initiatives, such as blight removal, local law enforcement, clean, safe drinking water initiatives, access to affordable healthcare, schools, and prevention of flooding.

"I am thrilled that Hemlock Public School District's field house project has been shortlisted for federal funding through Congressman Kildee's Community Project Funding initiative. This project will have a significant impact on the health and well-being of our youth and the community at large. We are grateful for the opportunity to be considered for this funding, and we hope that our project is approved in the FY 2024 appropriations bills," said Matt Wesener, Board President of Hemlock Public School District.

The Hemlock Public School District's proposed field house project aims to increase health outcomes for the youth and address the county's low rankings in length and quality of life. The funding would provide an opportunity for youth to be active year-round and create a brighter future for generations to come.

While Hemlock Public School District has been shortlisted for funding, the appropriations bills for FY 2024 are yet to be approved. Congressman Kildee hopes that both Republicans and Democrats can come together to pass a responsible government spending bill that includes these critical projects.

ā€œWe are excited about the prospect of receiving federal funding for our proposed field house project. It will not only benefit our students but the entire community by providing a safe and active environment for our youth. We thank Congressman Kildee for his support and hope that our project is approved,ā€ said Dr. Don Killingbeck, Superintendent of Hemlock Public School District.
