Volleyball District

Hemlock, MI-Last week the Hemlock Volleyball Team showed off their dominance in winning the Division 3 MHSAA District Championship on their home floor. Coming into the district the team had really started to find its groove and was playing its best volleyball.

Monday’s game against New Lothrop proved to be a battle that would go the distance. It took Hemlock all five sets to come out on top with a final set 15-10 thrilling victory. The girls kept it rolling Wednesday against St. Charles winning three straight sets after dropping the first 22-25. On the other side of the bracket Merrill handled their business setting up a collision on Thursday night. Hemlock came locked in and ready to handle business. They did just that, winning in straight sets 25-18, 25-15, and 25-22 as the gym erupted on the championship clinching point.

Coach Salo said of his team’s performance, “Our postseason play was held to a level that was impressive. We had to fight hard each and every match with no easy games through the entire district final. We played focused and with passion, with nothing left on the court.”

Coach is also excited about what the future holds for the program. “We are an extremely young team with only 2 seniors. Winning the district championship is an accomplishment we are extremely proud of. We will continue to get better as we have a good talent base of underclassmen for next season.”

Athletic Director Cory Snider said, “I am so proud of how the girls handled the stress of having to win 3 games in one week. The crowds were amazing and the atmosphere was something to behold. Being able to host districts in our gym and watch our girls and student section celebrate on our home floor was a remarkable experience.”
