K.C. Ling Welcomes Author Ruth McNally Barshaw

Author McNally and her husband spent the day at K.C. Ling Elementary and met with students in grades K-4 to share her story about being an author and illustrator. Through her story, she conveyed the importance of perseverance when working towards a goal. Mrs. McNally simultaneously showed students how to create step-by-step drawings that they could make in their personal journals.

K.C. Ling Elementary also hosted a family event in the evening with Author McNally. During the event, Ling students and their families enjoyed learning different drawing techniques from her, as well as working together to create and illustrate a story.

Tia Hahn, K.C. Ling Literacy Coach, said, “I was mesmerized by watching her drawings come to life as she was telling a story about the characters.”

First grader, Andrew Reid, stated, “I loved everything about it! My favorite was when she drew the dragon. It was skinny, and I would never have thought of that.  It was pretty cool.”

K.C. Ling has hosted an author for the past two years, as part of the annual reading month celebrations.  If you would like to learn more about this year’s author Ruth McNally Barshaw, you can visit her website at: https://ruthexpress.com/.
