Secret Agent

Everyone has heard of double “O” 7, which conjures up images of fast cars, espionage, and saving the world, but not everyone knows about seven “O” 7. The far less known “secret agent” doesn’t involve fast cars or espionage but does involve saving the world.

Hemlock Public School District has continued to work to reduce the district’s carbon footprint following the 3R principle of reducing, reuse, and recycle. The district has placed bottle fillers throughout, encouraging students and staff to drink more water and reduce the number of water bottles needing to be recycled or worse yet filling a landfill.

STEM and Technology Director Tom Lockwood said, “It is amazing to see the largescale impact by the district making and taking so many micro-steps in the right direction.”

Over the last several years, the district has worked on an environmental approach to reduce energy usage and increase environmentally friendly behavior with things like:

  • Water bottle fillers
  • Low flow toilets
  • Touchless faucets
  • Recycling stations, K-12
  • LED Lighting
  • Green School Status

Superintendent Killingbeck said, “This continues to be a team effort as we work together to improve our learning environment, curriculum, and our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint.”

Every Hemlock Huskie is a secret agent, 7 - “O” - 7 when it comes to reducing our carbon footprint through reducing, reusing, and recycling.
