Hard Work and Dedication Recognized

Hemlock’s Food Service Department continues to serve since the beginning of the pandemic, and without them, we would have a lot of hungry students.  This team shows up daily to provide healthy, delicious options for our students and staff.

Food Service Director Chris Tomasek has guided her staff to this level of prestige.  She has been employed by HPSD for 15 years, and at the helm of the Food Service Department for 10 years.  When asked what she was most proud of here at Hemlock she shared, “How everyone works together as a team to complete common goals.  Food Service sometimes is a thankless job, but our team is second to none when it comes to their dedication.”

Middle School Principal Mr. Chase said, "We are fortunate at HPSD to have such a caring group of ladies who take care of us each day!  It is always so nice to see a smiling face when our students come through the lunch line daily.”

The Food Service Department has faced adversity like all of us when dealing with this pandemic.  Shortness of staff, and communication with families, during this extremely fluid situation has been a challenge. They continue to make virtual lunches for days when students will not be in face-to-face attendance.

Food Director Tomasek stated, “On a typical virtual day, we prepare around 175 meals for students to take with them. These lunches meet the guidelines for balanced meals, containing all of the food groups, which include fruit, vegetable, milk, and a main.  Breakfasts are the same with the addition of juice.”
