The first three weeks of school during COVID… A Principal’s Perspective

Hemlock Middle School has been running very smoothly these first three weeks of school!

This has been very true, but it has had a different feel.  Students and staff have been required to wear masks, maintain social distancing measures, and limit congregating in open areas.

“Our students and staff have proven that they can persevere, regardless of how hard this has been. They have risen to the challenge to do their part which will continue to ensure that we are able to learn in a face-to-face fashion,” shared Middle School Principal Joshua Chase.

The custodial crew has stepped up to make sure that our schools are SAFE!  They wipe down high touch areas many times throughout the day.  We used specialized equipment that ensures we have the highest level of sanitation.

Principal Chase said, “I am very thankful for our custodial staff-Mr. Earle, Mr. Grossmeyer, and Mrs. Mullins.”

The district food service department has been providing meals for our virtual students, as well as our face-to-face students who need meals when they are remote.  Every student enrolled in both virtual and face-to-face can enjoy free breakfasts and lunches regardless of income.

One of the most exciting additions that happened this past week was the addition of athletics.  Middle school volleyball teams were allowed to practice indoors.  Our cross-country team is getting started next week.  Many great things are happening at Hemlock Middle School!
