Paige Back!

K.C. Ling students and staff recently welcomed back one of their own. Third-grader, Paige Baird, returned to school after spending the last 2 ½ months recovering from a tragic accident that nearly took her life.  As Paige entered for her first day of school, she was greeted by a crowd of students blanketed with Team Paige shirts.

Mrs. Gensch stated, “From the first day of school, it has felt like a piece of our school was missing.  Today, that missing piece is back and our school family now feels complete.”

Paige, along with a Child Life Specialist from Mary Free Bed, the rehabilitation hospital where Paige had been undergoing therapy, shared a presentation about Paige’s journey.  They also offered some suggestions for ways to help keep Paige safe while she is at school and still recovering from her accident.  Students were also invited to ask questions about the battle she has faced.

Although Paige still has a long road ahead of her, she is up for the challenge.  School social worker, Erica VanAlst, shared, “Paige is tenacious, determined, and courageous.  If anyone can bounce back from this, it is Paige.”

Paige’s fighting spirit and positivity resonated through the school gym that day.  Students were also reminded that above all else, Paige just wants to be like a normal child.  When asked what she was most excited about since returning home, her response was simple “to be a kid again.”

As Paige continues through her journey to a full recovery, she will be reminded that “No Huskie Fights Alone!”  Paige’s Pack will be behind her every step of the way!
