Hemlock teacher and instructional technology coach, Janice Kato, traveled to Abu Dhabi, UAE to collaborate and train teachers from around the world in STEM education. This was a world-class learning experience.
Janice Kato was invited by STEM Revolution, an organization that focuses on the development of educational practices. This opportunity was fully funded by the United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Education.
Even though Kato was halfway around the world, she shared her experience with her S.T.E.A.M. students by uploading videos to Flipgrid and uploaded numerous pictures that students were able to access anytime. Many students share these pictures with their family. One parent said to Kato, “My son rarely talks about school, but he was so excited to share with me what you had done that day.”
Kato was so inspired and will be sharing her knowledge with others by putting together a training called Empowered by Innovation.
Kato shared, “This experience was more than receiving and giving Professional Development, I left there with a Professional Learning Network, with over 90 world class educators and 7 award-winning educators from the US that I can collaborate and grow with professionally.”
Superintendent Killingbeck said, "This is another example of Hemlock Public School District Mission and Vision in action, leading the way in innovation, collaboration, and education. Our community of learners this time just happens to be halfway around the globe."
