Hemlock Public School District Develops Curriculum Council

The Hemlock Public School District in collaboration with teaching staff has worked to develop a curriculum council that will help oversee the development and alignment of curriculum and assessment. The council will also help with school improvement and professional development.

High School Teacher, Karen Willour said, “I am excited to be part of this proactive group working to make Hemlock Public Schools an even better place for kids.”

The Curriculum Council, which is comprised of teachers, administrators, and a staff developer, had the inaugural meeting on Tuesday, September 12th.  At the first meeting, the council set group norms, discussed the focus and vision of council members, and assigned tasks to complete by the next meeting, which is scheduled, for Tuesday, October 10th.

Last year, Hemlock Public School District, updated K-6 English language arts, middle school mathematics, and a secondary program for online learning. In reviewing data, this year the council will work to ensure successful implementation of those programs and work toward K-12 science, secondary ELA, and high school mathematics.

Superintendent Don Killingbeck said, “The Curriculum Council is another example of Hemlock Public School District’s commitment to excellence in support of our greatest mission of teaching and learning.”
